doling cave

A few weekends back, a bunch of us from Underground Ozarks took the tour they were offering of Doling Cave in Doling Park in Springfield.

Honestly, the cave was fairly generic as caves go, with few formations and just one long stretch of tunnel, but we pretty much knew that before we went in. It was the fact that the cave was normally locked up that had us dying to see the inside. And because we were actually doing something legal for a change, we were able to meet a lot of users from the site that we'd never met before.

Haha, legal exploring is always the best way to go. Just do some psychological engineering with the people who are "authorized" :-)

I have been to the Doling cave on a few of the guided tours. Did you guys get to see the million year old clam fossil on the wall.
Also back in the late 80's and early 90's I remember that the 2 caves on the side were still explorable, but they are now barred off. And did you guys also note the 100 ton rock stuck into the ground on the west side of the sunken area. Also note the Indian grinding bowl that is on the outside of the cave.
