Why do none of you fools remember to take along quick energy snacks or drinks? Non-squishable one's are the best, such as skittles. You'd think you'd know you'd be tired, hungry, and low on energy after 4 hours or so of exploring shit.

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

This is a very good point, and one I've been guilty of. I typically have some sort of water, but not much to eat. Although honestly, a lot of the places I've been to I wouldn't be comfortably eating in or even afterward until washing up and changing clothes. The MFA mill comes to mind as an exceptionally filthy and disease-ridden place.

E- Titanic also brings up some very good points about minimalism, bringing what the situation dictates, and not looking like a goddamned mall-ninja. I tend to be on the minimalist side of things now. If you look back at my gear lists in those older threads, you can tell that I've scaled way back to only what I think is absolutely necessary. Weapons do not fall into this category, excepting items which serve dual purposes, Maglites and knives for example.

E2- On the subject of filthy, disgusting places, respirators are often a good idea. N95 masks are pretty cheap, adding one to your kit is a wise idea.

I have taken m&ms in that come in a plastic tube with me before. That way you don't have to touch them if you have dirty exploring hands lol.

i have been planning to get a gun for myself just for some safety purposes as you can never tell these day when those bad guys are gonna hit on you. i am still deciding though what to get and the process behind it just so i know i am legal. i will have to prepare for the requirements and all maybe i can drop by the sheriffs office this weekend to see him personally.

You can read up on CCW permits online. Take a class, get fingerprinted, get your license. Why would you need to meet with the sheriff?

Go to a gun store, talk to them about their guns and what would suit your needs and ask them about ccw. Are you in spfd?

I got my CCW in 2010, and have yet to carry. I'd probably never carry while exploring.

In a city I came from in Ks when they first began the class, there was an uproar from people against the idea of people carrying guns. So the city caved to pressure and passed a local law that said you had to visit the local police dept, to sign up for your class. This rule/law no longer applies. Not sure if the member has the same rule in his area, or if he is just asking as a precaution for more insight.

Perhaps you should let him answer for himself.

I never said i was answering for him. :D I was just pointing out an answer to your question. As i said in my post above i have no idea if that is the reason he wanted to speak to the police, or if he was just asking as a precaution, which would be a wise choice also to answer any questions you have about it. If you dont like my post, then ignore it. :D
