Re: Exploring/Adventure riding
Been riding a ton lately and am torn between the off-road on-road balance. I was thinking about trading in my Drz400 for a 650 but don't want to give up off-road performance at all.
I can cruise at 70mph on my 400 but it seems pretty buzzy so I just ordered a larger front sprocket to bump my top speed from 88 to around 95. Next I plan on a new exhaust and some simple mods to gain a few hp. After that the plan is to change the rear sprocket to get that top speed around 100+ and still have plenty of low end power.
It would of course be easier to just buy a 650 but I really like off-road riding too much..

I do a bit of adventuring on a dual sport
Re: Exploring/Adventure riding
^ We've got the same bike! Whereabout do you like to ride?
Also just picked an '06 TTR90 up and look forward to throwing it in the car this summer for riding in far-off places. Ain't got no garage, so it's sitting in my living room for now lol

So when are we all going on an adventure ride?
Re: RE: Exploring/Adventure riding
I remember a certain fertilizer plant surrounded by logging woods that had lots of rideable land... I think we went there with Nicotti and DR3i once.SubLunar wrote:So when are we all going on an adventure ride?

Re: Exploring/Adventure riding
This weekend is the last weekend I have to ride before I move to Pittsburgh.
I've ridden over 4000 miles in and around Rolla in the last year. If it's a trail near Rolla, I've probably been on it.
My group (3 of us) are heading down to the Licking area on Saturday. People are welcome to crash at my place in Rolla if you want to join.

I've got New Years plans that day
What tires do you have on your CRF? I've still got the stock ones and they are fairly slippy off pavement...
Good luck in Pittsburgh!

Stock CRF250L tires are designed to kill riders. I went to D606, it's a 90/10 tire, pretty aggressive.mindwaave wrote:What tires do you have on your CRF? I've still got the stock ones and they are fairly slippy off pavement..
Two of the guys I ride with, one on a CRF250L, run the Kenda K270. Super impressive tires.
Re: Exploring/Adventure riding
So are any of you near Springfield? It's time to start riding again.
Last week I bought a KTM 1190 Adventure. It's not setup for offroading yet. My V-Strom has a skid plate, crash bars and luggage but I'm going to sell it to fund some crash bars for the KTM.

Rode down to Rush, AR today. It was cool. Didn't walk around too much. It was a pretty good ride.
Last Saturday I rode to Hasty, hit the Arkansas Dragon, went to Boxley and Hawk's Bill Crag. That was a better trip but hotter.

Yup, I know that place. Poked around near there for an underground marble mine but got blocked by a unit train unloading a few thousand tons of coal at the Ameren plant.mindwaave wrote:I remember a certain fertilizer plant surrounded by logging woods that had lots of rideable land... Saturday morning I took off to Illinois for the Eclipse. It ended up being an almost 800 mile trip. It was the furthest I've gone.

Re: Exploring/Adventure riding
I just went on a 10 day 2,700 mile trip around Colorado. That was pretty epic. We got rained on everyday and in the second picture we had
just gotten poured on hard. We pulled in a car wash and unpacked our gear. Cooked brats on a portable stove and drank a few beers
while we rode out the storm lol
