Exploring/Adventure riding
RE: Exploring/Adventure riding
My exploring ride
Re: Exploring/Adventure riding
There's a show one Travel Channel called Mud People that explores off-roading and mudding parks. Last night it showed Brick’s Off-Road Park in Poplar Bluff.
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

Re: Exploring/Adventure riding
I know its an old thread but it took me a long time to find it. I ride a V-Strom Adventure and mostly just backroad around Springfield and south around Branson. It's not too uncommon to head out with bug spray, a tent and sleeping bag with no destination in mind. Those trips usually end up near Ha Ha Tonka or the Buffalo River because I know I can find a place to sleep near by.
Most of my riding buddies have Harleys or chromed out shiny bikes which is cool but they won't cross a creek or explore a gravel road.
I think I have an accout on ADV rider and for sure have one on Stromtroopers but I don't post much and figure this might be a better place to meet explorers.

That does it, I'm learning how to ride a dirtbike this spring. Super interested in taking a ride around Missouri like this one.

Goddamn yes. I need to license mine and slap some street tires on that sucker. My 400cc's will haul ass on dirt or street.mindwaave wrote:That does it, I'm learning how to ride a dirtbike this spring. Super interested in taking a ride around Missouri like this one.

I'm not mechanically proficient nor do I particularly want a torquey hoon machine, so I’ve been really leaning towards the Honda CRF250L due to simple maintenance and beginner friendliness. FI would be nice to have, too.
$5000, 3kMi, heavily modded: http://nashville.craigslist.org/mcy/5632725263.html
$4000, 1.3kMi, performance mods: http://ottumwa.craigslist.org/mcy/5652416979.html
$4000, 40mi, basically new: http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/mcy/5690076534.html
Also figured I’d look at the DRZ400. More displacement and adjustable suspension would be cool, but it’s pricier and would likely be more difficult for a newer rider.
$5000, 2.2kMi, performance mods: http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/5644742183.html
$5000, 0.5kMi, cosmetic mods: http://quadcities.craigslist.org/mcy/5622675785.html
I'll probably ride 80/20 paved/unpaved, and I won't be doing whoops or anything crazy at speed. Confirming availability with sellers now. Any opinions/advice?

Re: Exploring/Adventure riding
I've been in the market for a new bike as well. I think I'm going to get rid of the DRZ400 and pick up a 2008 or newer KLR650. It would definitely be nice to carry more weight and take longer trips. They're also cheap, $4000 is my top dollar

I thought that I posted a couple pics a year ago. Apparently not.

Dang. I'd ride that thing all over the fucking place. I need to get a street bike..
RE: Exploring/Adventure riding
It's pretty much the best of the entry level adventure bikes and it's served me well. I can load it up with camping gear and head wherever. I'm probably going to sell it or trade it in @ tax time.
I want a new Triumph Tiger 800 XCX.

Re: Exploring/Adventure riding
Been meaning to ride the Tiger. Looks cool.
Recently rode the BMW R1200GS. It's marketed as an off-road friendly bike, but I was not impressed with it in the dirt/gravel. I did about 30 miles and had enough. That was a 1100-mile weekend, so less than 3% and it wasn't a very fun time. But, on the street... that might be my favorite bike I've ever ridden.

Dude it's the greatest thing. You just go wherever you want to go, nothing to stop you. I've also found several abandonments on the bikemindwaave wrote:Been fun so far. Slowly finding more places to ride offroad.
