Caves of Missouri Bretz
I have a copy of J Harlan Bretz's "Caves Of Missouri" hardcover,Vol.XXXIX second series, printed in 1956. Dust jacket has seen better days but the book is in good condition. Also a paperback copy of "Missouri The Cave State" by Weaver/Johnson printed in 1980.Condition is fair. My caving days are behind me now and I would be willing to part with them.

College student rule #1: Don't pay for things you can otherwise get for free.
I used all my print quota here one semester printing off the PDF of that book. Took half an hour and a ream of paper, and you could fry an egg on the printer afterward, but I got my book in paperback.

On the other hand, I have only ever seen one copy of the book in person. It was magical and had a halo around it, with angelic choir voices being softly emitted from within its covers. I could only look at it with sunglasses and touch it after leaving an offering of fresh meat cuts and fruit. After my brief but sacred handling, I had to say "amen" as I reshelved it.

RE: Caves of Missouri Bretz
I found this book years ago in a used book store,I was always on the lookout for books on caves, geology, primitive cultures, native americans etc. I have thoroughly enjoyed this book, but I had no idea of its rarity until I saw it mentioned on a forum post here. After a quick check on a few online sites, the cheapest I could find it was $70...Holy cow! I'm sure I gave no more that $4-5 for it! I am more interested in getting it into the hands of someone who will appreciate it than getting a bunch of money. I would also like to exchange it in the fairest way possible if there is more than one person interested... Any ideas?

Put it in the middle of a ring enclosed with glass. We'll fight to the death for it. Winner uses dismembered part of loser with which to break open glass case and retrieve victory Bretz cave book.
Honestly, I'd love to have it but I'm too broke right now. I'm sure someone else on here would be able to give you a reasonable sum for it.

Have you seen Fowke' s Archeological investigations: I. Cave explorations in the Ozark region of Central Missouri? It has a lot of really good stuff in there. I wish there was an updated version of it.chuckalicious81 wrote:I was always on the lookout for books on caves, geology, primitive cultures, native americans etc.

Have not seen that, guess I need to do some searching for it!
Re: Caves of Missouri Bretz
Best I could do is trade it for some old text books I bought/received that were of interest to me (as opposed to one's that i bought for classes I was in).
Laboratory manual for Plummer/McGeary's physical geology
and
Caves: Processes, Development and Management

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.
