New mall and theater in springfield???

Post by piplnr65656 »

I heard a rumor on myspace that they are going to build a new mall and theater in springfield. Has anyone else heard anything about this? Big construction sites are fun places to explore.

That's right. There was a brief discussion of this in the Other forum a while back, but good luck finding it now with 1000 new threads posted every day. (I'm currently about 30 threads behind in "Other")

It's called College Station and it's being built downtown in the old parking lot area just west of the Heer's Building... not immediately west, that's where the Heer's Tower parking garage is going to be. Think across the street from that, but still westward, between Heers and the Hotel of Terror, roughly. If you visit that spot on foot you should be able to view a billboard with some architectural designs of what the finished product should look like and a brief description.

It's basically going to be a large outdoor mall with several stores and restaurants, a multi-plex style theater, and another parking garage (which will be sorely needed if all goes according to plan).

There are those of us with misgivings about this project, but I don't really mind development in what was already a vacant lot. I certainly prefer it to, say, demolition of pre-existing structures to make room for "progress." However, it's slated to be finished by the Fall of 2006, and as construction has yet to even begin, I'm 99% certain it won't be.

I did have a link, but I seem to have misplaced it. However, armed with a name Google should be more than capable of filling in the blanks.

the branson landing has a lot of stuff to check out. It has been awhile since i have been down there but they should have some building in various stages of completion.
When they were building the branson high road it was very cool because there was all this big equipment in the middle of nowere and no one to stop us from playing :D If the MDOT ever gets there shit together maby we will get to do it again soon.

Some construction downtown:

Heers Tower - renovation
Building across from the Radish - renovation
Building by Jimmy John's - renovation
Bank near STD Flea - rebuilding (it fell down)
College Station - upcoming
Science museum... place - additions

Those are all the ones I can think of at the moment. Sorry, names escape me.

Not unless you go during the week when they are doing construction... or else you can climb up the side of the wall and onto the roof of the lower level part and then climb to the top of the tallest part by an afixed latter. then there is some busted out glass on the double doors of the tower going onto the roof that you can go into and then make your way down from there.
