Well, I finally lived up to my word. I made a return trip to the Hall of Fame caves this last Saturday, along with a friend of mine, and brought a 100 ft rope along for the ride. It was actually a lot of fun, and not that (for me), but he had a hell of a time. We were both pretty beat by the time we made it out.

PS: your ladder's still there.

Ya getting out is very interesting its like you have to squeeze yourself between the walls and then pull up, hell of a workout. How was the bat activity?

We didn't see any. Lots of bugs though, mostly cave crickets.

You'd definitely fit. Think you have the muscle to yank yourself up a rope?

K, just making sure. I think I could. If I get determined enough I can.

Well, I thought my friend was gonna have the big one, but he eventually made it. I'm pretty sure you're up to it.

I went there today with some friends. It was kind of hard to find it in the dark, but eventually we found it. I'm thinking about marking it off with some tape or something....anyway, the cave was pretty cool, but theres some tight squeezes, and sadly, a lot of broken speleothems. The ladder was still very much intact. nice work, white rabbit. :)

Anyone know what direction the hall of fame is from this cave? Tried to find it but didn't have enough time.

South... and uphill. If it had been light out you definitely would've seen it.

The cave with the ladder is actually called 60 pit cave, and the one with the big drops is called sabertooth cave.....because there were sabertooth found out there.

first of all, let me just say i read the post i made last night and realized i asked for directions to the hall of fame....i actually meant the other cave, but i found it today anyway. There's security guards all over the place around that area.

My teacher Charley Rey is a caving buff and knows pretty much everything about any cave in the ozarks.

if you ever have any questions about any of the caves around here, ask me and ill get you a good answer.

Don't sweat the security. I've seen them out and about, but they're just golf course guards. They have absolutely no jurisdiction over either of those caves. They're on public property adjacent to the highway, and are most likely the domain of MoDOT, which I'm pretty sure could care less. They're essentially public domain caves.

As for the names, those are interesting. They certainly seem fitting. However, when I asked Matt Forir (the Riverbluff Cave guy) about it he said they were called "Calcite Root Cave," and were technically classified as one cave, since they were almost certainly connected prior to the dynamiting of the highway. The names aren't really important, though, and most caves have at least two names (Sequiota Cave/Fisher Cave, Ash Grove Cave/Skylight Cave, etc).
