Abandoned RR bridge?
I was looking at KC on Google earth and noticed what looked like an abandoned bridge JUST across the state line in Kansas City, KS. It's right next to the Central Avenue Bridge, close to I-170.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? Is it abandoned? Anything worth seeing?

I've driven along the dirt road that goes by it. I wanted to check it out but had no one with me, so I didn't.

RE: Abandoned RR bridge?
If you're referring to the one down in the west bottoms by Kemper arena, yes it's abandoned. There's another one about a half mile north of there also. The one right by Kemper was the old style bridge that raised up for large barges on the river. The last time I was up there, you could still get up into the little control rooms. The other bridge is just a typical rr bridge, but the rr ties are a little sketchy and I only walked about half of it.

there is an old steel 2 lane bridge thats abandoned in oklahoma. its pretty big, looks like it would be a train bridge. its just to the south of OKC, north of newcastle along I-44. cant miss it.

Google map location/link? I used to live in that area and have no idea what you're talking about, but would love to see it.mechfreak57 wrote:there is an old steel 2 lane bridge thats abandoned in oklahoma. its pretty big, looks like it would be a train bridge. its just to the south of OKC, north of newcastle along I-44. cant miss it.

Wait! I do know what you're talking about. It's not a RR bridge, it's an old highway bridge that may have been part of old Route 66.

I've been across it since then. Cool bridge, dodgy wooden ties.
