RE: St. Louis people....wanna get together this weekend?
Alright, I'll be in an orange Chevy Colorado pickup. I may bring a friend.

I was hoping my mom wouldn't need my help moving all day, but alas, moms are HELPLESS. So, I didn't get to come. Hopefully you guys didn't hate each other right off the bat, and plan on getting together again.....right? What did you guys end up doing?
I really appreciate you all PMing me with cell numbers. Sorry I couldn't make it.

There ended up being 4 of us. Myself, inubis22, Chris, and Hunter. It was the most exploring I have done in one day from 10 until about 6. We hit up Carondelet Coke first and a couple piers near by. That place is really cool, the first time I had ever been there.
Took a little lunch break and then we went to a couple "little" places to see what we could find. And finally ended up at the Abandoned Shopping Mall in Jennings which was massive. Hunter even made a new friend at the mall !
We plan on meeting up again and doing some more soon, god only knows where we are going to go .

I'm glad you guys had a good time. I hope we can build a big enough St. Louis group that we can do things like the underground barbeque and the trip to Monte Ne like the Springfield group did.
Maybe we should put together a list of places to explore. Here's some that me and Hunter have done:
Armour packing (East St. Louis)
Hunter packing (East St. Louis)
B&O Roundhouse (East St. Louis - not that interesting)
River Roads Mall (Jennings)
Carondelet Coke (Carondelet)
Judevine Center (small school in Sunset Hills)
St. Mary's Infirmary (very cool, not completely explored, downtown St. Louis)
Concrete thing near Missouri Mines. (long drive)
Columbia Quarry (near site of old Valmeyer, rt. 3, Illinois - needs return trip)
Corno Mills elevator (East St. Louis - nothing to see)
LaFarge cement plant (on Riverveiw, North St. Louis - messy!)
Rockwoods Reservation (old mine cart frames, limestone 'caves')
In addition, me and some other friends walking into the River Des Peres tunnels, which is posted below. We didn't go in very far.
Places we haven't been:
Ammo plant at Goodfellow & 70.
Falstaff brewery and caverns (Consumer's in the lost caves book)
Tunnel underneath Tucker Ave. (downtown St. Louis)
I'm sure there's many more - throw out some ideas!

I really wanted to go but I had to work
RE: St. Louis people....wanna get together this weekend?
Here's some pics of Carondelet Coke from our trip. I didn't take any of the mall. Tuna and Inubis, are you guys going to post any pics?
Looking North towards downtown from the structure over the river.
Looking down towards the ground. Notice the burnt-out SUV in the upper center-right.
Looking back towards the main buildings. The two lower buildings with the vertical lines are the actual coke ovens.
Inside the North end of the main building (this picture was taken from the top of a large tank with a ladder up to it).
Main buildings from the South. We call the orange foam-covered tank on the left the 'ketchup dispenser'.
Main building and offices from the North.

I actually wouldn't mind going back there with a big ass wrench and a pry bar to see if we can open those dampers in the tunnel and get into the bottom of the smoke stack.
RE: St. Louis people....wanna get together this weekend?
I'd like to go back as well if we can figure out how to open the dampers. Anyway, here is where all of the pics are posted and everything is organized by location: http://photobucket.com/albums/b380/inubis22/

inubis22, is the Saint Louis correctional Institute still accessable and if so is it still in the condition your pics show. The pics you took are awesome and I think it would be awesome to go and see if it isn't all trashed.
