River Des Poop
Re: River Des Poop
Where do the stairways lead?
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

Forest Park. I can't quite remember exactly where though. When I was searching the internet to try to find out, I came across a really cool website called Underground Ozarks that had some great information on it. One poster said it was near the Fish Hatchery.

I ran the image thru some filter software that STL P.R.S. loaned me and came up with this...

There is a large metal grate in Forest Park near Grand Blvd and Union, right alongside the gravel foot path, that blocks access to a staircase that goes underground. Though I have yet to go down there, I am positive they lead to the River. In fact, you can usually hear rushing water, especially after rain. Enter these coordinates into google maps for a marker I put on it:
38.643187, -90.274523
Last year, part of the metal grate had broken off, allowing a large enough gap to crawl through, however I was too chicken to check it out!

^That would be a hell of a shortcut to cut out a couple miles of monotonous concrete and go straight to the hot brick fresh. Unfortunately it seems to have been repaired since then.
RE: River Des Poop
Who ever decided to call this a river and by what definition did they use to do so? Driving down Gravois this morning and as I past over the River Des Peres I thought, how disgusting this is.
Nice job guys!

Caption says Junction RDP and Univ City Extension, Skinker & Rosedale, Oct 1940. Anyone been in RDP North of Forest Park?
RE: River Des Poop
Has anyone found info on the "River De Peres Yacht Club"? My mother, who could be very wrong, claims its once existed and at the right times people would boat and jet ski on River De Peres....
Anyone ever seen evidence or heard anyone else mention this?

How's the fishing?
Re: River Des Poop
Mitts, it's a nothing more than a long standing joke, a meme even. Everyone in South City and Lemay jokes about the RDP Yacht Club.
There's a Deli named that near the Ivory triangle now.

Yeah the Deli only added to my suspicion. I don't use facebook so might explain me not seeing the meme. Now I want to see the meme!!Chris wrote:Mitts, it's a nothing more than a long standing joke, a meme even. Everyone in South City and Lemay jokes about the RDP Yacht Club.

Re: River Des Poop
It's not an internet meme, it's a social/real world meme.
Spend enough time in South City / Lemay social circles and you'll hear it.
