Ozora Marble Quarry
Ozora Marble Quarry
Anyone ever explore this quarry in Perry County?
Re: Ozora Marble Quarry
I haven't, but it looks cool. It also looks like you pretty much have to drive straight up the road past that one house to get there.
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

Re: Ozora Marble Quarry
Well see that's my big concern.
I was in the area yesterday and drove up to the road, but I didn't want to go back there if it's basically some guy's drive way. Hard to tell what's back there.
I'd really love to see it though.

RE: Ozora Marble Quarry
Can never hurt to ask permission; I've had pretty good luck with that and mines in rural areas.
I meant to explore both quarries there; they did extend underground and are now mostly flooded. Looks to be a bitchin' stiff-leg derrick still there as well.

Looking more closely, it looks like all the buildings with access to the road have holes in the roof - old barns - certainly not active residences.
I'd prefer to ask permission but I can't find anyone to contact.

Annoyingly you need to have a subscription to view the Ste Genevieve County Assessor GIS, but if you can figure out the address or parcel # you can look up the owner. Alternatively, you could just go to the local hangout in town and ask the old-timers who owns it.Chris wrote:but I can't find anyone to contact.
Edit: You should scout the area with your drone.

I did find out that the STL office for the parent company back in the day was on the 8th floor of the Paul Brown building. That building is loft apartments now.

I'm down that way fairly often. Will definitely drive by next time and investigate.

Two derricks actually, one for each pit. Pics incoming.Headframe Hunters wrote:I meant to explore both quarries there; they did extend underground and are now mostly flooded. Looks to be a bitchin' stiff-leg derrick still there as well.
