confirmed missile Base
IN the "missile base on 13" thread. There was talk about a base somewhere in jackson county and a terraserver image was pulled up of the area.
This is indeed Nike Missile Base KC-30. It's located a few miles south of Lone Jack, North of Pleasant Hill on County Highway KK
I'm going to try to go check it out this weekend.
There are Four Nike Sites in Missouri...three of which are reported to be intact and the fourth is said to be covered by other buildings now.

I think there are more than 4 if you are counting ones that are inactive--these is one in Robertsville that is converted into a school

Most missile bases (if not every one in Kansas/Missouri) are owned by someone. Just keep this in mind while exploring. There was once someone shot and killed at an atlas site just for exploring.
I'll post the news story later.

Here's info about the silo the shooting occurred at (taken from http://w3.uwyo.edu/~jimkirk/atlas.html ):
"Nice trees, tidy, but looks undeveloped otherwise. The Terraserver photo was taken in 1991. Between 1993 and 1995 it was cleaned up and made livable but the missile bay roof was torn out to salvage the steel (silly, given the low cost of steel). It was then sold to Tim Schwartz, Ed Peden's partner; they then sold it to Bob Cordray who had repeated trespassing problems and on February 16, 2000, shot and killed a trespasser. See newspaper article and later articles by the Topeka Capital-Journal. The owner was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to nine years in prison. I'm told all the trees have been cut down though in the second photo, taken by Don Peoples in September 2002, some still seem to be standing."
Here's the article itself, it's a pity you have to sign up to read it:

RE: confirmed missile Base
I found the site and poked around a little while. Pretty cool. Here's a couple of exterior shots....
The "silo" itself has been torn down and there are some old fifties cars sitting on top of the pad..i didn't get down underneath where the missile was stored..Not too terribly sure that it can be done ...i have a few ideas but i needed more time than i had that day.

RE: confirmed missile Base
Wow, that is pretty awesome. I'd like to think that I'm inadvertantly responsible for this, at least in part.
What do you think would happen if you hopped the fence?

RE: confirmed missile Base
what would happen if i hopped the fence?
In the hypothetical event that i were to climb the fence, i would then hypothetically walk around and find that the buildings are mostly locked and I may then, hypothetically, have somewhere to be very soon.... ......when i would be done, i would hypothetically hop back over....
.....
..........
as i was was walking around the exterior, i noticed that there is little to no security measures taken here......everything is old and rusted

I'd pull it. However, I don't think I actually have the ability to scale one fence. Let alone two. I blame society for my problems.
