Unknown "Beer Keg Cave" near Huntsville

Post by gxp »

Looking for any info on what I'm calling "Beer Keg Cave".

A couple years ago I read about a cave near Huntsville where the entrance was just big enough to fit a beer keg into. I remember reading when you entered the cave it had a swimming pool and a 'hangout' like area where you could could hangout, swim, and drink. IIRC it was on private property, owned by someone with the name Herschel something? I feel like I remember reading that it was a kinda popular place back in the 80-90s. I don't remember much about it, just that it sounded like a sweet hangout spot I really wanted to checkout.

Any info appreciated, I can't find the old threads where I read about it.

TIA,
G

Herschel or Herschend? The Herschend family own Silver Dollar City, Talking Rocks Cavern, and a bunch of other stuff. I would not be surprised if they owned the cave you were talking about. Bruce Herschend built his home over the mouth of a cave (it's big enough to drive into) and hosts parties and such inside it.

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.
