..and, I know parts of Kansas are nice-ish. Just like parts of Missouri are boring, such as most areas north of the Missouri River.

Well Nicotti, I guess that one of my first urban explorations (more of a rural one) was above the Missouri river. Anyway, I assume it was. I can remember it, but I was only about three at the time. We lived in a little town of Salisbury about midstate and slightly above the river. My Aunt from Springfield came up for the day and her and my Mom took me with them to an old antebellum mansion that overlooked the river. As I remember it, it had a widow's walk and everything. I believe the style is called "Italianate". We went inside and it was all corrupted and everything. I wasn't allowed to go upstairs but had to wait downstairs while the two women explored the upper stories. The tale behind the place was that an old Steamboat Captain had owned it and either Confederate guerrillas or Yankee Jayhawkers raided the place and shot him for not telling them where his treasures were. His own hogs then ate him.

The area up around Smithville is pretty nice. I despise Iowa, so I can imagine that the bulk of northern Missouri may be like it. I am not real familiar with it. Nor am I terribly familiar with western Kansas-anything beyond Wichita.

I'd never heard of the word Antebellum until yesterday, and now I've seen it mentioned on here.

FYI, for those like me who didn't already know...
"Antebellum" is an expression derived from Latin that means "before war", in this case the Civil War.

Being as most of us on here are from northern Arkansas or southern Missouri, the antibellum South is something we're all aware of (though slavery isn't exactly something we wish to go back to... unless we're talking about taking slaves from neahboring nations ie. Canada).

Just signed up recently. :)

I can't say I've been on the scene for too long, but I've got a couple interesting spots in the Pittsburg area that I intend to post up before long. 8)
