I had actually heard of this well for the first time when I was following up on the tornado damage that Greensburg, KS suffered earlier this year. Luckily, the well wasn't damamged in the storm.

The tornado did decide to drop some debris into the well and if I remember right they have limited access to the well at this time, but are in the process of cleaning it out.

Sorry, but that just made me laugh. You mean the tornado didn't damage the hole dug in the ground? Huh. imagine that. :lol:

Thanks for the link, Cuz. If I'm ever in that part of KS, then going to the big well seems like a good excursion.

It could have if huge amounts of debris (or a small amount of huge debris) had gotten dropped down the hole. It could have easily damaged or destroyed the metal staircase which leads visitors to the bottom of the well, or perhaps the stonework that lines the sides of the well. It technically is a hole in the ground, but it's not like it's just a dirt hole. It could have been damaged.
