abandoned amusement park near Dallas, TX

Post by bugo »

In 1995 I went to Lollapalooza in Dallas. On the way to where we were staying in Arlington, I noticed an abandoned amusement park on the north side of I-30, somewhere west of Loop 12 if I remember correctly. There was an interchange off of I-30 that had been blocked off and the signs had been removed. Does anybody know anything about it?

When I saw it, it was during the summer.

I think this might be it:

If you switch to the Urban area view, the whole place has been levelled.

Those both are the same location... just 6 years apart. I'll look for it on google maps and give you a more recent picture. Then we'll determine if its abandoned. If they blocked off the exit, chances are good. Interesting stuff.

Hah, you're right. Good call on that. They are both water parks though. The real question now is which one is the abandoned one?

It's definitely this one:

The color aerial shows the park gone:

The abandoned ramps I remember seeing were the old ramps from I-30 to Belt Line Rd. The reason I-30 has all those weird interchanges along it is because it was originally built as the D-FW Turnpike, and the weird interchanges were built that way so they would only have to build one tollbooth on each connection to/from the Turnpike.

Oof, water parks don't disapeer much more then that, eh?

That looks more like a mall then a factory. The parking lot and building design leads me to that. Notice how the parking lot is nearly three times the size of the building/buildings. Also realise how theres seems to be a central part for the mall surrounded by taller additions making them places for the larger department stores. The other place in the bottom right would then be another retailer.

Find out what it's zoned and then you'll know if it's a factory or a mall.
