New members and porn
New members and porn
Has anyine looked at the profiles of the newest "registered users" to the site? 4 out of the last 5 have links to websites that are just porn sites and have nothing else posted in their profile other than a username and a website. I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed this too?

RE: New members and porn
I've only noticed one but I don't normally view new members. I found that the new one had a porn address so I figured it was a "bot" of some type.
So you're saying that Dragonfly has a porn address too?

I will not make any deals with you. I've resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own. I resign.
RE: New members and porn
I think WR needs to go back and review all members who haven't ever posted to see if they have porn sites for websites in their profiles and deleat them if they do.

I had noticed the last two that did, they also had Kiev listed as their location. I wondered if it was just someone who registered more than once and was just being an ass.
What the hell is a "bot"?

Well... Hrm. There's a little image code thing you have to type in when you register that should keep the bots out, but they may have found a way around it. Either that, or some spammer took the time to manually register new users.

Yup, looking at it closer, they've definitely found a way around the visual confirmation. I went ahead and cleaned out all the spam users while I was at it.
I'm looking at a couple of additional mods to try and stop them, although it's really more of an annoyance than a real problem. But I'd still like to stop them on principle, because spammers are evil.

Oh. In this case, a bot is where some spammer takes a list of forums pulled from a search engine, and uses a little automated script that registers at all those forums with the Website field filled in for the website they're promoting. They do this because having our site have a link to theirs will help increase their rank in search engines, Google, etc.HMndnproud wrote:What the hell is a "bot"?

OTOH you want to make sure you are not knocking out google bots so that you get a high page rank.
