Big AM Radio
Big AM Radio
The other day I decided to check into big AM Radio Stations and read more about them. I then found out WBAP 820 out of Dallas is one of them. As some of you may know, Dallas is my home town. WBAP 820 has the biggest am coverage during the daytime, and at night they don't have to power down. So I decided to tune them in, and I have been getting them everynight clear. All this time, I have been here, and I haven't realized I could listen to a Dallas radio station at night. Thought that was pretty cool. Can you guys get them in the Springfield area at night?

The iPhone has internet capabilities and I'm pretty sure the new iPod Touch does also. It is basically an iPhone without the phone part.

What's this internet thing you're talking about?

Speaking of old AM radios, anyone know where one can buy refurbished vacuum tubes inexpensively? My parents have an old radio that still works, but only buzzes, we think one of the vacuum tubes might be broke.
More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

RE: Big AM Radio
Get an old Shortwave and listen to the BBC at night. Or Art Bell talking about the other crazy shit you can listen to
Or get a booster amp for your old 70s CB and talk to Hawaii, those things can skip off the atmosphere forever with enough juice (they use AM as well).

It's a series of tubes and pullys designed to transmit completely useless information from one person to another. Much like stripper-grams.crazydrummerdude wrote:What's this internet thing you're talking about?

Re: Big AM Radio
If anyone wants to check out AM, or shortwave radio you can pick up some nice radios from China for fairly cheap nowadays.
I recommend the Tecsun PL-380 for FM/AM/SW. Great pocket radio. You can listen to broadcasters from around the world. My favorite is Radio Habana Cuba. They sent me a QSL card in the mail to confirm my reception report. Very cool! (Looks like someone opened the envelope to inspect the contents..)
If you require SSB to listen to utility stations (military, FAA) or ham radio pick up a Tecsun PL-660.
