The photo-a-day thread
Re: The photo-a-day thread
So that hoist is attached to an abandoned mine?! Looked pretty clean. Can you go underground here?Headframe Hunters wrote:Headframe and surface equipment for that hoist I posted

Yes, that hoist is connected to the headframe in the photo. The shaft is an 80-degree inclined, sunk to a depth of 350ft. Underground access into the workings is not possible right now, though you could descend the shaft's ladderway to the water level if you wanted. Eventually, money will come in and they'll turn the pumps back on and restart production.SubLunar wrote:So that hoist is attached to an abandoned mine?! Looked pretty clean. It looks clean because the mine isn't quite abandoned, just on standby. I was out there shooting photos and video for a while before the owner finished up some survey work he was doing at an adjacent mine; we went over some of the technical details once he met me at the Jim Crow. The power in the hoist house is still on; they were doing development work no more than two years ago, and are just waiting on investors to fund full production. I was probably the first person other than the owner, miners, or an MSHA inspector to set foot in that hoist house in a long, long time.
Now, a photo from the mine he was surveying. What you're looking at is a Gardner percussion drill mounted on an air-track platform; they're about to drill an exploration hole through what I believe to be the Chris vein, with the goal of further delineating the deposit. That mine, by my calculations, has over a hundred million in gold and silver resources, most of which is mineable.

RE: The photo-a-day thread
Awesome shot! Was that photo taken with a telephoto lens, or with a drone?
Re: The photo-a-day thread
I cheated with that "telephoto" shot, it's from a drone. This one's too:
