The story behind "Haint Blue" porch ceilings
Let me start off by saying no, that isn't spelled wrong. It looks like I was trying to spell "haunt", but "haint" is another word for "ghost" or "spirit". Anyway...
I thought this was interesting because I've seen it a few times when exploring abandoned houses, especially down south. Have you ever noticed how some porch ceilings (and sometimes door and window trim) are painted blue? My grandma, who is from Georgia, explained to me that Southerners paint their porch ceilings "haint blue" (a mix between the blue of the sky and the green of the ocean) to ward off any spirits that may be lurking around their homes. The theory is that since ghosts cannot cross bodies of water, the paint color will repel them.
The paint was also used to repel bugs. However, because lye isn't used in paint anymore, or at least not as much of it (I'm not a paint expert. Lol.), this no longer actually works.
Knowledge is power!!

Also in the south...they don't knock the chimneys down on old homes because its a superstition that spooks live in chimneys and if you knock them down they will follow you.
Btw I'm a douche. That is all...

Wow! Is that why you see so many random chimney stacks everywhere? Moselle, the town I got this shot at, has one. And I can think of some other places too, like there's a few off some roads off 79. Interesting! Thanks for sharing!

Yep that's why. I know where a couple are in my area I will try to get a few pics when I get a chance. Always up for sharing. Maybe we can start a new thread.

I didn't think there was enough to make an actual thread on it. Maybe I should though?

Oh and to be honest? The red head model I was taking pics of last year did end up being a ratchet ass ho. I deleted all her pics off Facebook. Lmao!s.sisco wrote:Yep that's why. And as for me being a Juggalette, damn right I am, but I'm old school. I've been listening to them since the 90s. The new crowd gives us a bad name, and have made us be classified as a "gang" in many states, and in every prison. They don't listen for the creativity, they listen because they think it's cool. There's a difference. Yes, a lot of old school folks have wound up in prison but that's because of the choices they made and sometimes because of the environment they live in. My brother, who is 2.5 years younger than me, has also been a fan for a really long time, but he's been in jail more than he's been out. I've never been in jail and never have been in trouble for anything but traffic violations. Yes there are a lot of methheads out there that listen to them. I've never touched it and never will. It's all a mindset. It's not about the music. People forget that a lot.

Yeah I know. Shit is crazy. Dumb ass people mess it up for the rest of us. I have a hatchet man on one wrist and a hatchet chick on the other. I'm sure one day that is gonna bite me in the ass. But whatever.
The chick is red. This is an old pic. They are basement tats and are a little shitty but hey! I represent! Lol.
