Yeah I can see that, you're probably right.VintageLace wrote:It looks like the dike extends out from shore to a point sound/downstream of the tower, then cuts north/upstream to meet the tower foundation. Looks like they are standing on the north/south section of the dike.

Chain of Rocks Water Intake towers?

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

I found the vagina boat we needed for this plan.

These shots aren't amazing, but I'll return eventually. These towers are awesome.

The following is for educational purposes only. As others have pointed out, it's very foolish to be anywhere near the intake towers. Even if you manage to escape being slurped into the city's water supply system you are still not in the clear. Hypothetically speaking, if you were to make it up on the deck of the intake tower you'll find yourself in handcuffs almost immediately. The woman who manages the towers however is not a police officer. Why she chose to seize control of these towers was a question I asked her myself. She said because this thread has 60k views and nobody can hear screams way out here. Things only deteriorated from there. As unlikely as it sounds Tower #2 actually connects underground to every single cave in the midwest with a lost entrance. That's another story for another time because I had to leave those prints behind to break free.

Re: Chain of Rocks Water Intake towers?
For those that don’t know this area of the river where the towers are, is rather well known for another reason as well. It’s supposedly like the best spoonbill fishing on this side of mars or something. Spoonbill season in MO is very short and confined to the month of February if I remember right. What’s unique about spoonbill fishing is there’s no bait involved. A heavy pole with thick line and lots of treble hooks being dragged through open water is how you fish during “snagging season”. I’ve always wanted to go watch others do it but haven’t made it out to witness for myself. Another caveat of COR is that it’s notoriously dangerous for anyone not familiar with the actual COR itself. At certain river stages you have up to a 14’ waterfall. More drownings occur on this stretch of the Mississippi than any other.

Agreed! And based on the pics of this you posted last summer, you must have one helluva UFO. I mean way better pics than I would have expected from a private model. Clearly I’ve been cheating myself!mindwaave wrote:Ridiculously rad. What an epic project.

Re: Chain of Rocks Water Intake towers?
Thanks Chris! Took a lot of time but glad to know they are being well received. I forgot to mention that some of the pics were from the Bissell plant but most were from COR or towers. I have some others from this collection I’ll try to get up soon as well which are from different parts of the city water system.Chris wrote:Um....WOW!!!!!!!!

Re: Chain of Rocks Water Intake towers?
I was thinking those cut stone tunnels/arches/basins have to be older than the COR plant.
