Pantera Minerals prospecting old silver and antimony plays in Southwest Arkansas
The typical old and abandoned mines that pocmark the state, are being looked at again. Most last seen any activity during WWII, and now it looks like we're back into a mineral extraction push again, with modern techniques.
Somewhat related, under DeQueen lake is Bellah Mine. The whole area used to have communities before the dam was built, and there should still be some building foundations left near the shore in places. It's been years since I've seen them, and many of the community names have been lost to current residents, unless they study local history or have senior relatives who grew up there. All of Southwest Arkansas used to be dotted with small communities, that were pretty much self-sufficient before automobile use was widespread. The scattered cemeteries are about all that is left of many places, which usually denote where a local church stood, along with the rest of the community within walking and wagon distances. When paved highways started to be laid down, that's when many of those communities started to decline, and people moved closer to the 'larger' towns. There's a lifetime of history in Southwest Arkansas, for anyone who'd like to take a peek at it, and it changed very rapidly, to where many young people today have no memory of it.
