| The Eagle Ozark Technical Community College's (OTC) campus newspaper is thinking about starting a regular urban exploring column in its pages. I am on the current staff of the Eagle and volunteered to take on some of the explorations. I need a team of at least 2-5 people with cool heads and some UE experience to assist in exploration. Interesting. Have you run this past legal? You do realize that this site and members on here have had extensive dealings with legal entities in the past due to the public nature of this site and the illegal nature of many exploration activities?

I think what he is talking about is a legal consult because trespassing is not legal, and writing a paper about it and having it published is like shining a spot-lite on the questionable activities.

The site has been shut down a few times by local law enforcement and various public entities threatening law suits. A good portion of explorations are no longer posted on this forum due to those and other ramifications. Be selective about your explorations you write about, and you shouldn't have trouble. But you never know, so just be ready.

I'll be writing these columns anonymously and, at the moment, the powers that be at OTC are allowing it. We'll be investigating some basic urban exploration sites as well as doing a bit of ghost hunting in the area. Let me know. |

Just like that, but 100 times brighter. The people on here are, for the most part, are explorers. That's why we can get away with posting our exploits for the most part, but the paper does not have such a selective audience. I attend OTC, and I'm looking forward to the article, all I'm saying is be careful about details because it would suck if some asshalt gave you trouble about an article.

Call me overly protective, but writing about good urbex locations in mass media makes me slightly uncomfortable.
From a legal stand point, which has already been touched upon, depending on where you go and what you do there, you may be engauging in illegal activities, that you are then detailing out to others.
What bothers me is the audience you're writing for, a general audience. It's a mixed bag, there are explorers out there that would love to read about this stuff. There's also asshats out there that think it's cool to go someplace and mess it up, or steal stuff just cause no one is looking after the place.
UO is slightly different than your article in that respect. It's not posted on CNN or KY3. A person has to be interested in exploring or something exploration related to find the website.
I'm not trying to dissuade you from writing the article, I'm just saying be careful in how you write up your articles. If you trespass to get into a place. Maybe you shouldn't give exact directions or name the place in the article specifically to make it harder for your audience to find.
Cause when it comes down to it any increase of traffic to the locations you write about and any damage to the area from that traffic is in part your responsiblity, because you told people about the place.
