Anyone checked this out?
Anyone checked this out?
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=kansas+ci ... &t=h&hl=en
I rode by this building/complex on my bike last week and was curious as to what it is. Looks like a good place to check out. It is fenced in and looks completely abandoned. It also looks as if it might be integrated into the bluff.
If this is something you guys know about already, forgive me. I'm just new at this and curious about the nature of some of these places.
That said, if you follow the river, there is a ton of stuff to see. I explored an old railroad maintanence shed with an old service locamotive still in it. Most of these buildings remain and are easily accessible. There are whole abandoned industrial parks in the river valley along Independence Ave and areas south. Very cool. If anyone wants more details, I'd be happy to show them around.

Thats a very odd looking structure. We we're scouting it out and decided to walk around real quick when this errie van pulled up and parked in front of the main gate. So we made a dash back for the car, but i definitely want to see it again.

Sweet. Let me know what you guys find.
I'm on the ground for countless miles training for mountain bike racing and exploring both. I'll try to post more interesting stuff when I can.
Following the Blue River around Independence Ave (to the north some) uncovers a lot of old industrial buildings, though, many of which are accessible.

gothstone and i found the cave entrance yesterday; we saw a little lake inside the cave, so we called youthsonic; he brought our raft and we went for a boat ride;
the cave is huge! you see an endless vista of massive stone columns and darkness; and bats;
props to staubio for finding this location!

Silentbob, Lenore and I went back today. Damn te place is big. We now know of 3 entrances, and between topos, sat pics, and what I've boated/walked of it I can estimate it to be nearly half a mile long and a quarter mile wide. I'm gona need more twine. I'm also getting some waders so I can just walk the place. Out meetup on Sat will be going here, I think I will go early Saturday morning, to get a head start. We have also now found evidence of recent entary, and there are jeep (or some 4 wheel drive) tracks in part that are recent, so there must be at least one entrance large enough. One we find it we can just drive in. We MUST have a party here!

My brother(KC77CJ7) has a Jeep with some pretty decent ground clearance that could probably drive right through the water as long as we could see what was under it. Is it clear?
I don't know where to start.....

Its clear. We would still need waders or the boat for the truely flodded places though. It gets as deep as 5 feet.

I wonder if a Jeep would make too much noise. I'd be worried about making the wrong vibrations and unsettling the rock.

That is actually a very good point. Some of the cracks made me a little weary. That said, there are numerous fresh tracks in there. So I'm not sure, continue at driver's discretion I guess?

RE: Anyone checked this out?
The tracks may have been from a 4-wheeler. Both less noise, and less bulk.
