Oh shit! I'd been meaning to go down there for a long time. Looks like I waited too long. I went on a heck of a float trip right by that place once. |

"The Pruitt-Igoe Myth" is on Netflix. Although I disagreed with some of it, it was very interesting and I learned a lot of things. Like, did you know able-bodied men were not allowed to live there? _________________

This is my favorite tv show ever. I pretty much have it memorized. This is my position on hunting.

Aaron Sorkin is my favorite writer. Sports Night and The West Wing. I can't wait for his new show, The Newsroom, which looks like a combination of both shows.

Post Scriptum: I just learned that if you want to link a youtube vid to a specific time in the vid, then after the link, add a "#t=00m00s" And just substitute the double zeroes with the vid time. _________________ “I investigate things to complete my knowledge, my complete knowledge makes my thoughts sincere, my thoughts being sincere; my heart is pure.”

You don't lure deer out into the open and you sure don't use twinkies. Just sayin. This couldn't be more of a made-up-for-tv rant.
I'm not much of a hunter but I have gone. Respectable hunters don't tolerate unfair shady tactics, like this tv show made up to portray as commonplace. Yes, there are some assholes that "hunt" game in fenced in areas just for the trophy and practice other similar tactics in the name of "fun". But that represents only the worst 1%.
Population control necessitates the hunting of deer in any area in which humans are encroaching on the deer's native habitat, which is pretty much everywhere but the big cities and the uninhabited wilderness.
There were pricks in the days of the Native Americans just like there are pricks nowadays. Rants like this merely cast a negative light on the worst side of hunting and attempt to persuade the audience that all such activities are frivolous. Yay for mass media's influence on public opinion.
Hunting pretty much comes as second nature to people who own land in the country. The mentality is to live off the land. They farm crops. They hunt and fish for food- Not only deer, but squirrels, doves, etc. Sure, you can rely on the grocery store for everything if you want. But you can also sure as hell go find a meal in the woods. I've done it.
Just because everyone seems to live in the city or suburbs nowadays doesn't mean that's actually the case. The rural midwest is farm communities full of people who still know how to live off the land. Those farm communities still do things that us city dwellers know nothing about. Our collective food-gathering knowledge has been reduced to grocery store aisle navigation. We're so civilized, we must know what's best. Is everyone supposed to stop hunting just because it's not the only option anymore? If you ask a city dweller who's never stepped foot on a real farm, then yes. But have them work in the fields every day and see what the logical conclusion becomes.
And how about that meat you find in the grocery store-You think those animals sacrificed themselves for us? You think they had a comfortable life and were totally content until the end? If anything hunting to eat is far more respectable because you have to fight the animal for the right to eat it. You control how it's put down and you honor it by giving it an humane-as-possible quick death in its own environment. You're not pilfering through the remains of multiple families and picking the cheapest slab of unnaturally dyed meat.
Respectable hunters go into the woods and track their prey and wait for opportunity just like any predator. It's not like it's easy to just go into the woods and shoot a deer. You sure as fuck can't get a deer to walk up to you for a twinkie, or anything else for that matter. I've been deer hunting ~5 times and still haven't shot one. Hell, I have only even seen one while hunting one time and he took off as soon as I barely moved.
TLDR:
This merely illustrates the problem with generalizing complex issues (even if they don't seem complex). Most of our perspective in regards to hunting is of the douchebag trophy collecting sport killers who live in the suburbs and the cities and fancy themselves macho hunters. Even though it's 2012 and we think we're all in the same modern boat, I can assure you that there are still plenty of people out there who have a legitimate use for hunting and this will always be the case until we run out of wide open spaces where animals still roam free and man can still survive relying primarily on his own two hands. |

You fucking redneck! j/k
Hunting still seem frivolous. And as far as controlling deer populations there are much easier ways...like making condoms readily available to the deer. _________________ “I investigate things to complete my knowledge, my complete knowledge makes my thoughts sincere, my thoughts being sincere; my heart is pure.”

| Deer condoms don't work. The last time I used one, it broke and a few months later, I came across a small herd of sublunar/deer babies. I slaughtered all the ones I could find, but it's possible one or two got away. |
