Impact Location In Question??

Post by hogtexan »

I found the FAA accident report and it showed the impact site at 34 42.083W, -94 20.000N. Plotting this site on Google Earth appears to show the impact occurred on the south slope of Black Fork Mountain. However, the FAA report also states the final flight heading was 240 degrees and approaching the Page VOR slightly further to the SW. This tells me the aircraft impacted the north side of the mtn. Would be good to know the GPS coords for where these photos were taken to clear up where the actual impact occurred. Thanks.

Ok these coords seem reasonable. Black Fork Mtn. ridge line runs basically E-W here and appears the impact occurred at approx. 30 degrees with a heading WSW. The wreckage was reported to be approx. 600ft. below the peak at this point. Located on Google Earth. Thanks

Can y'all do me a favor please and remove the GPS coordinates?

This place is still a grave site, and I know looting goes on. I would appreciate it, if you do find the location, to keep it to yourself. Not saying any of you would do anything, but it keeps it away from prying eyes.

Thanks.

Agreed, this area looks pretty remote, and located on some steep terrain. With that said nonetheless, I would love to go out there and see the site sometime next winter. I was wondering though, is it better to access the site from climbing over the Black Fork ridge, or from the dirt road to the north?
We are all just sloguns waiting to have our triggers pulled.

@paul06660 I climbed from the Rich Mountain side and it was a heck of a hike. I have to think that north side would be easier but maybe that's just the "grass is greener" philosophy.
