I need to review the old ones, decide the rules, and decide if I'm giving any RL prizes.

Prolly going to split the competition into SWMO/NWAR & STL Area groups so if you're not in either of those areas choose the closest.

Ok I'm considering a $10-$15 Applebees gift card and bugging WR to Change your title to "Street Sofa Champion 2011" or some such thing.

Okay I've decided to scrap the different areas idea for the sake of my poor bank account, seeing as I've decided to go with a real prize.

Rules, points, and start/end date forth coming...

Okay, I'm gonna give it a 3 week run starting on Sep. 9 ending Sep 30. I'll post rules and points before then.

I make no promises about the toilet bonus. Though I am considering a wildlife/pets lounging on the sofa bonus. Such as this pic, that I love, from 2008:

Official Street Sofa Contest Rules

Contest:
Turn in the most photos of street sofas. You know, those sofas that get dumped in random places.

Rules:
Must be different sofas. No fair moving the same sofa to different locations.
Must be true street sofas. No fair taking pictures of sofas on porches. No church pews, benches, or Lay-Z-Boys need apply. Sofa = any piece of furniture designed for indoor, multiple person domestic seating. Overstuffed chairs do not count.
No using photos from previous competitions.
No taking pictures of your own pets on sofas for the “animal inhabitant scoring bonus”.

Locations:
A street. A field. A creek bed. A rooftop. A dumpster. Anywhere but in or adjacent to a furniture store or yard sale or in a residency or on a porch/deck. Different areas have different point values (see Point System).

Date:
Starts 12:01am Sep. 9
Ends 11: 59pm Sep. 30

Prizes:
1st place gets a spiffy title (hopefully) and a $10 gift card to Applebee’s or Walmart (your choice). I will be mailing the gift card to you, so if you win and don’t want to give me your mailing address you will be forfeiting the card. If 1st place forfeits the card, I’ll ask 2nd place, if 2nd place forfeits then nobody’s getting a gift card.

FYI: There will be specific picture goal challenges on Saturdays that award more points.

Point System is being finalized. I shall post it shortly.

Official Street Sofa Point System

For sofas in urban areas or near houses/buildings:

Sofa - 2 points.
Upright sofa - 3 points.
Upright sofa with cushions in place - 5 points.

If the setting is a wilderness area, above point totals are double (4, 6, 10)
If the setting cannot be determined, i.e. wilderness/industrial/residential, then the assumption will be lowest score (2) regardless of position or cushion count.

Sofa in or near a dumpster, with or without cushions in any position – 1 point

Sofas in pick up truck bed - 2 points
Sofa strapped to top of car - 20 points
(add 10 points if either of the previous two are obviously abandoned vehicles)

Futons in the sofa position are 1 point regardless of location or orientation (must show cushion in photo, no cushion no point). Futons in the bed position are worth no points since they decided to emulate the bed instead of the superior sofa.

Sofa or Sofa positioned Futon with animal inhabitant +5 points
Can be a wild animal or pet lounging on it or bird standing or nesting in it, must reside on or in the sofa, under does NOT count. Multiple animals on a single sofa do NOT give multiple 5 point additions. Hobos, homeless, drunks & others of the human species do NOT count.

Sofas in abandoned or dilapidated buildings while obviously abandoned cannot be awarded points as they aren’t truly “street sofas”. However, if they are in buildings missing at least 2 or more walls I may make a judgment in favor of it on a case by case basis. Judgments award no more than 2 points regardless of sofa position or cushion count.

No toilets this time, but I guarantee the Super Sofa Saturday Challenges to be fun, possibly torturous, and worth a good deal of points!
