B&H?

Post by Baileybrucem »

SO. I have lived in the KC area this whole time and never put two and two together and realized that the B&H mine system is in the Belton area. Does anyone know if 1) it is still accessible 2) It's locations or any clues about where it is?

THANKS!!!

Growing up in Belton, I heard there were natural caves under the west part of town stretching from 58 highway to under RG Air Force base. Are those the caves you're referencing? I may spend some time on Google Earth tonight.

B&H doesn't actually have anything to do with Belton. It's actually an abandoned underground quarry near the intersection of two streets that start with the letters B & H.

It took me a while to figure it out too. Not sure why it was abandoned though.

So is the site still being used? I thought it was a quarry that isn't used anymore. And are the entrances outside? Thank you!

I just drove by the site (about 2 miles from my house). The entrance on Banister road has an actively monitored gate.
By that, I mean a dude in a yellow vest who opened the gate for the car in front of me.

Hopefully that link copied okay. You have to scroll through the newspaper article a few lines at a time. It has the address of everything in KC at the time.

Have either of you two been inside the quarry?

Nope. This is the first I've heard of the quarry.
