For anyone who’s been to the ghost tour in Alton you’ve already seen the tunnel in the photo of this story. This is a new tour focused entirely on the UR which sounds pretty cool. The ghost tour wasn’t bad either for what it’s worth.
The story of this mansion and the family who helped signal slaves waiting on the river bank of the MO side was very hard to imagine what level of danger the owners as well as the slaves had to go through to avoid detection. This was literally a block from where Elijah Lovejoy’s printing press building was stormed by confederate sympathizers and that was burned to the ground with him still inside it.

Re: Underground Railroad Tour - Alton
Update- I called today to get reservations for this tour, if possible for this weekend. The woman on the phone said you’re funny! So this was first announced Feb 3rd and every tour date through October is sold! That’s after adding two months to the intended length this was to run. It features tunnel hiding spots from Alton to Godfrey and it’s one of those tours that doesn’t come along but every twenty years. I should have bought tix instead of posting this thread lol.

Could we all get on the list for next year, instead?
Preservation over plunder.
