Klondike Quarry

Post by silverstreak »

After I missed the crew going out to Falstaff several weeks back, I was pissed, so I took it upon myself to find something on my own, a bit closer to home. I ended up traveling out past Weldon Springs, and I came to the old Limestone Quarry which opened in 1898. This Quarry at one time shipped the majority of their product by rail, and a good portion of the huge structures that transported the rock to the rail road (what is now the Katy Trail) is still perched atop the bluffs along the Missouri River. There is a large hole atop the cliff where the rock is dumped, and it pretty much appeared as if it would cascade through the channels, and ultimately end up inside the huge elevators along the tracks. Thes elevators are partially filled with sediment, also with rocks, and some furry woodland creatures, but they still have a demanding presence along the river, a glimpse of what used to be. Other than a great view of Labady, and the river, you can get a sense of what the area was like 60-70 years ago No multi million dollar wineries, and estates, simply men working on the land, and a once mighty railroad.
