CHDK Camera Hack

Post by Mandi Milenko »

Hubs put this on my camera last night. Kinda too scared to use it. Lol. Anyone ever hear of/use it?

From what I understand about these firmware hacks is that they install on your memory card and don't change anything on your camera itself, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about. "Magic Lantern" is the same type of thing for DSLRs. I haven't tried these yet.

Yeah it's stored on the memory card. The main thing that I'm worried about is overheating my camera. Hubs tried a 2 minute exposure and it noticeably got hotter. The only reason I wanted it though is for RAW and remote capabilities so those shouldn't overheat it.

No way to be 100% safe with an aftermarket firmware, but the best bet is to use stable versions that have been out a while and not use beta versions.
