More On Topeka State Hospital
It's cool with me if the mods merge the threads. I didn't wish to trod on the other one though. Some of these pics are redundant, but it shows the state of decay of the old mental hospital and the rate which it is progressing. If this structure is around much longer, it will be a surprise.
The whole grounds are nothing short of awesome. We used to send and receive kids from this institution when I worked for a kid's detention facility in Pittsburg. We had rapists and murderers, as well as your run-of-the-mill kids who were just pretty much abandoned. The state threw them all in together and paid people who didn't give a shixt about them to warehouse them. If there is someplace in Kansas that is truly haunted, it must be Topeka State.

Great pics! It looks to be in even worse shape since the last time we were there. I would love to have a look inside all the buildings. If only they would open it up just once...only one could hope. (I realize that the Center Building is in horrible shape and would be very dangerous to enter....but I bet it looks awesome on the inside!!)

Do y'all have any idea what the white stucco house that sits on the far north edge of the property was? I'm guessing it was the Director or Superintendent of the Facility's housing, but I don't know.

Please don't send any of the paranormal groups from television... I find them to be unethical and rather ignorant to boot.

There are good paranormal research groups out there, but TAPS isn't one of them. GHOULI (Ghosts, Haunts of Oklahoma and Urban Legend Investigations) is a reputable one. I'm personal friends with one of the team members. Plus their from Oklahoma. http://www.ghouli.org/
BTW, the television paranormal groups have actually done more harm for several of the locations they've investigated by raising public awareness... as in more douchbags trying to break into, and vandalize these places. That's what comes from the high exposure Television brings.
On top of which these groups don't do their research as well as they should, Pythian Castle here in Springfield is a good example. Some of the paranormal groups that investigated it call it an "Infamous" orphanage and claim that horrible deaths and abuse happened their while it was a home. None of that is true and the only deaths on record are for illnesses and for old age (remember the home was in operation from 1914 to 1941). This was a home only for Pythians and their orphan children. Why would the order want to send its children to a place of abuse and neglet?
The point is, be careful of the paranormal groups you're looking at.

I'm a member on a couple of sites. I find the stuff fascinating and I do believe in ghosts. Much of the stuff on the internet sites is laughable though. I have to believe many of the posters are simply bored trolls. For that reason I don't comment very much on them. You can never tell if somebody is trolling or it is just a very naive person. Right now the hot thing is "shadow people". Before that it was "sleep paralysis". Then there are the orbs. Always with the orbs. Oy vey. At any rate, a lot of it is interesting stuff.
If you'll look on the thread about Sauer Castle, I or somebody else...maybe even you, commented about the lack of recorded deaths there. Same thing. Of course none of that precludes hauntings. Still, it is amazing that some of the stories on these places just snowball and nobody ever questions them or does any of the most rudimentary research.

Awesome place.
RE: More On Topeka State Hospital
Went back today. Easy entrance. I think a lot of local kids have been going here lately.

3 out of the 4 buildings from Scout's first post are accessible. Only Biddle Hospital was secured and I saw that 3 years ago so wasn't too disappointed.
