10 year Anniversary?
So, it just occured to me that this page is right about a decade old. I don't know exactly when the page was founded, but I see all of the oldest posts started in late 2004. That's like...internet ancient. I joined almost exactly 7 years ago myself.
Time to take a moment and reflect on all of the things that make you feel old. What was going on in the wolrd when this thing was started?
-The Incredibles, Shrek 2, and Passion of the Christ were big in theaters.
-Facebook started
-FRIENDS ended
-The Trial of Saddam Hussien started
-Ubuntu is released
-The Indian Ocean Earthquake/Tsunami killed 250 thousand people
It's been a while.

RE: 10 year Anniversary?
That time period of my life pretty much sucked. I was in a relationship with an alcoholic whore, was working at gas stations and had a car that broke down on me all the fucking time. 2004 was probably one of the years in which my car didn't even have heat in the winter (bypassed heater core). And I didn't explore much. I usually worked over time and was going to school at night. Fuck you, 2004.

Re: 10 year Anniversary?
I was in my early 30's and was working 60 hours a week winding stator coils in an electric motor assembly plant while going back to college in the evenings for my IT related degree so I could stop working 60 hours a week winding stator coils.
I discovered Underground Ozarks in early 2006 while working my new cushy IT desk job.

Ayup, at that particular job I did. I had time to read everything here back then. I also used to bring in my personal laptop and play World of Warcraft using the free wireless pumping through the building.mindwaave wrote:Must have had a lot of "free" time to surf the web with that job!slow_walker wrote:I discovered Underground Ozarks in early 2006 while working my new cushy IT desk job.
Current job ... no time for surfing the web or anything at all. But I love what I do so doesn't matter.
Re: 10 year Anniversary?
I was working in a completely different field that I never should have left.
I didn't have kids, a car payment, and wasn't even in a relationship. Don't get me wrong, can't say I regret any of that stuff.
I actually got out to explore, though. I lot, too. I miss that.

Re: 10 year Anniversary?
Some memorable stuff for me.
I was 11 years old. I got my 1st and 2nd "girlfriends" .....all in the same week. I found a four leaf clover and laminated it. I keep it in my wallet to this day. I took part in organizing a bathroom fightclub and we would have sanctioned fights everyday in the little boys room. I held the school record for most times around the monkey bars. The blisters on my hands were worth it... I couldn't wait to play dodge ball in gym class. It was the only sport I could beat all the jocks at. I lost my grandma to cancer and sister to a car accident. My old best friend moved to a different state. I met my current best friends.
