Re: SubLunar's Blog

I have mixed feelings about this, but.. the time has finally come.

THE LEMP BREWERY (CLICK HERE)

including:

THE CAVE
WESTERN CABLE RAILWAY
LEMP EPHERMERA
LEMP ADVERTISEMENTS
THE BEST GHOST PHOTO EVER CAPTURED

furthermore ! :
CAVE VIDEO COMING SOON

To be very clear: LEMP IS NO LONGER EXPLORABLE. My photos are from ~2010. I've waited a REALLY LONG TIME to post any of this, even several years after it was confirmed to be finally secured. But even knowing it hasn't been explorable for years now wasn't enough to convince me to finally do it. Getting chased off more recently wasn't enough to convince me.

The main reason I've decided to finally post it now is because of those doofuses who recently got a tour of it and posted that youtube video that was making the rounds earlier this year. If those fools can get a tour of it now, then anyone should be able to do the same and there's no longer any reason to continue hoarding this to myself.

BUT WAIT

THERE'S MORE

More online investigation than onsite exploration these days.

Ok I just counted..

NINETEEN new blog posts are on the way. I have more shit in the queue than I've had some years total! And this has been a pretty slow year, exploring wise.

I've got a lot of work to do...

-

Oh, I've also got a couple more Lemp-related pages to add to that big Lemp post. Mostly just informational stuff-not very picture heavy, primarily dealing with addressing various myths/rumors/etc. One of them will be UN-DEBUNKING a certain Lemp urban legend that has long been "debunked" by all the experts. I will be making the case and presenting evidence that this urban legend is absolutely "Plausible", and not debunked like everyone seems to think. I thought I'd be done with this all by now but just been super busy lately.

Lemp/Cherokee Cave video still on the way. Would have been done a long time ago, but I had some annoying audio issues caused by some of the gear I was using at the time. Cleaning up audio is almost as bad as keyframing blurry shapes over sensitive information. Redacting that Police Station video FUCKING SUCKED and I hope I never have to do something like that again. Ugh.

> > > LEMP CAVE VIDEO < < <

I captured this video a long time ago and never expected it would become public so it's not as smooth or well done as I would have liked for something destined to be public. And at that time, I had not yet worked out a great lighting solution and some of my equipment caused very difficult audio and video issues which needed to be corrected for the video to even be watchable. I published this a few days ago but it had been delayed by all the technical difficulties I had to overcome. I had to upgrade the software I was using just to get the video done as I was having to go into video editing territory that was new to me and needed more advanced tools at my disposal. Had I also invested the money into a better GPU for my computer, it might not have taken so long, but that would cost money and I'm a cheap/broke ass so I struggled along at like 1 FPS. The end result is, I think, "decent".

My only real regret with the video at this point is that on this trip, I turned around due to bad air and never made it back in time before it was locked down in order to finish/get better footage. But there's nothing much beyond the part I turned around and I had already documented that area with photographs on my many prior trips, so eh. Whatever. In my defense, the air was so poor down there that my lighter would actually not light due to lack of oxygen.

ALSO:

I wanted to report that I've had multiple grueling back to back weekends of shenanigans recently which will result in another 3-5 blog posts on the way, depending on how the pics and whatnot turn out.

I'll probably wait to start posting them until the after new year because I have a ton of editing/work to do (and because I'm in no hurry to bury my Lemp post).

This past weekend was notable for a variety of reasons, one being that it resulted in one of my most unexpected finds while exploring (see attached).. which also made for one of the more terrifying hikes I've done.

This was also a work trip, so I wasn't expecting to even be able to get away for adventures. But then fate shined its glorious countenance upon me and I was able to properly find myself in some dangerous places and very stressful situations which involved hiding in tall grass from people while all alone and far from home.

Stay thirsty, my friends.

PS This gator's rear claws were as big as my hands. I was hiking down an overgrown road in a swamp-adjacent area and I turned a corner to find it directly in my path. I was pretty freaked out until I got closer and realized its head and tail had been removed. It was a fresh kill, definitely within the past 24 hours, but most likely it was dumped that morning. Ironically, I chose this road because of the "No Dumping" sign here, versus the same "No Trespassing" signs all its neighbors had. Since I wasn't intending to do any "dumping" here, I proceeded with the assumption that I was otherwise authorized to be there.

WELP it's 2025 and I guess it's time to get this party started.

As mentioned before, I've got TONS of new stuff coming up and 2025 is already set to be my most productive year in the past decade in terms of number, and variety, of blog posts. For example, I'm sitting on like 20 posts right now. Got a lot of work left to do, videos still to edit, etc.

Full disclosure: about 40% of the upcoming posts are at least partially or fully legal/tourism, some of which may have started out as tourism before I snuck off, stepped out of bounds and explored them. I don't really discriminate and I don't care if it counts as "urbex" or not; if something is "cool and old" then I want to see it and if it's cool enough I'll post it on my blog. Simple as that. Whether I explored it or toured it, it's all cool old stuff. No disneyland bullshit here.

Anyway,

I'll start off now with another stupid "mashup" post like I've done in previous years before we get to the new stuff coming up shortly.

Castillo De San Marcos

Castillo de San Marcos is a Spanish military fortification constructed in 1672 in Saint Augustine, Florida and is now considered the oldest masonry structure in the United States.

The Castillo has been besieged several times but has never been taken by force. Over its long 350 year history, the Castillo has served the interests of 4 different countries consisting of Spain, Great Britain, the Confederate States and the United States. In each occurrence, control of the fort was handed over peacefully.

At long last, after 17 years, I got to properly explore the location at which my profile photo was born.

DePaul Hospital

There was an unsecured staircase which led to/from the shared basement/tunnels of the active nursing home. We went down there and a comrade took a picture of me as I was listening for potential threats around the corner. It's kinda blurry since it wasn't planned and I could probably re-shoot it now and get it all perfect but I'm not really into selfies and a blurry action shot is way cooler anyway.

Even back then you could tell the top couple floors of the nursing home were effectively abandoned so I always wanted to see it, aside from the fact that the whole place is a huge interesting complex with nice architecture.

It shut down suddenly about a year ago so naturally we got all up in it.

Spoiler alert: It's pretty fucked.

-

ALSO

Welcome to the beginning of regularly scheduled blog posts.

Every other Sunday at 4:20pm, starting two weeks ago, you can expect a fresh new serving of that good stuff. HELL YEAH BROTHER.

I have enough already queued up to post one every two weeks for at least the next 12 months. By my calculations, this should all culminate around the time of the blog's 20th ANNIVERSARY.. How the fuck is this even possible?

-

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE AGAIN

In ADDITION to all of all that I've got almost the same amount of "new" old posts dating as far back as 2006, but about half of which are from the modern era. This group mostly consists of locations that I just kinda forgot about, they were locations that happened on a big road trip but weren't like the main attractions. I haven't decided yet whether these will be part of the regularly scheduled updates or just bonus posts or something.

So yeah. I'M EXCITED. ARE YOU EXCITED? HELL YES YOU'RE GODDAMN FUCKIN STOKED, I CAN TELL. WOOOOOOOO GET SOME
